I'm moving into my first home (I had been taking care of my mother in her house for many years). So finally I'm buying my first house. I'm very excited but not so much in love with the kitchen cabinets and can in no way remodel the kitchen for at least 3 or 4 years at the earliest. Here's a virtual view of the model home: http://www.divosta.com/homefinder/model_ virtual_tour.asp?ip=1&commOrg_acctCo de=3120&plan_acctCode=45902
My house is the no frills version so it pales in comparison to the model but it looks like the cabinets are the same. All of my kitchen and dining room furniture is medium oak and I do love its quality and durability. I hate the whole kitschy looking farmhouse white and oak thing that was popular in the 90s. It was fun back then but I don't want it now. What can I do? I was hoping to put crown moulding over the cabinets but I see that the cabinets on the outside wall go right to the ceiling. Any ideas on how to tackle this on a budget?
Looks like a cute place! I think you could do a lot worse with the cabinets. I'd try looking at Lowes.com and bhg.com to get some ideas on basic kitchen remodeling. Painting the cabinet doors and adding new hardware is a good way to give it a personal touch. Good luck.

No offence against Danish design but... it's just not my thing. That being said, I am living in Denmark and having a very hard time finding good quality, more traditional solid wood pieces. In particular, I am in the market for a dining room set, including a china cabinet. I think a style that I am drawn to is considered old Swedish farmhouse type furniture. Can someone please direct me to some furniture sites that offer a little more than what is typically found in most furniture stores in this country? I'm trying to make a home here that I feel good in. Would I have better luck searching in Jutland versus Sjaelland?
We have had the same problem looking for a sofa and chairs, most on offer seem to be the type you would find in a office waiting room, not very soft. we were looking for something you can sink into rather than perch on!!!
Have a look here based on Fyn

i'm moving to a house that was built in 1850 and then added onto a few times, I've looked all over for ideas and can't find anything that seems to fit correctly. i like the liberty of london from target and the simply shabby chic by target, all though i can't find the liberty of london in stores anymore and they don't have bath accessories and not enough bedroom choices, and i feel that the shabby chic would be to dull for me.
any who i need help with this i'm out of ideas. i want bright happy colors but i want them to be similar to what they would have used in the 1850s.

Farmhouse Dining Table | India pied a terre
This week thoughts turn to food and families around dining tables, perhaps more than most weeks. So I’ve been thinking about dining tables for our place in Chennai. To gather lots of people. Big dining tables.
The table and chairs in our Chicago dining room are a matched set we found at a sale open to the public at the Minneapolis design center . The dining set totally bores me now, but at the time we were caught up in an exciting event ( ) and it fits the spaces that we had then, and have now, perfectly. It has an elegant fine cherry finish, which is nice, but it’s a delicate finish and it’s now showing so many scratches from cats using nails to brake while sliding across it (I never see them do it but evidence is definitely there), plates being pushed across it, etc. It doesn’t stand up to the rigors of women wielding scrapbooking tools on it. And that’s tough stuff, believe it or not! So something much hardier is needed. And what’s hardier than a table built for a farmhouse? With a thick slab of rustic wood, already imperfect, so you don’t have to worry about imperfections ever again.
