Elegant Dining Room Furniture

I dont have any furniture, we're just starting out but we are trying to decide what color to paint the dining room. We will pick a dining set accordingly AFTER we paint but what do you think the best color would be. I have a beige-ish textured tile in the dining room with hints of grey and darker beige.

I asked in this category because you all have GREAT answers and helped me alot while planning my wedding! So good with colors lol

Don't pick the wall color before you pick the furniture. The furniture can cost from $500 (if you're lucky and a suite comes in while you're at Goodwill) to $5000. The paint costs the same no matter what color it is - under $100 will cover the room if you do it yourself.
It would be too silly to limit your furniture choices by color when that's the easiest thing in the world to change. All paint costs the same.

I like casual but elegant furniture. I'm trying to decide if I'll like this set. The people at the store think it might be too formal for my taste, but I think it looks kind of country. Thanks for any advice.

It's sort of a "queen anne meets the country cousin" style. This is actually a poorly conceived furniture design; it looks like it's trying awfully hard to be a formal "Queen Anne" set (the turning of the legs, the dark mahogany etc), but those horizontal slats on the chairs are pure country.

This is not casual in the least ~ it's the chair backs that are giving you the illusion of being a country set.

My dining room is painted a light ivory color above chair rail w/ cream colored bottom & white trim 'squares' below the chair rail. The trim is all painted white. The trim work is very elaborate. I have ivory Lenox Laurel Leaf table linens, and white china with gold piping. Dark walnut furniture. And one window; 36x84. I would like an elegant drape to tie in all of these ivory & cream colors, but only have about $200 to spend. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate them :) I am going crazy trying to find something!

I would get a nice rod and a length of rich colored fabric(deep green, gold or burgandy) and swag it over the window. This site has some good/easy ideas....or just google....elegant no-sew window treatments

The only 2 rooms in my house that are empty are the living room and the dining room. I need help with the living room, because finally i decided to buy the furniture. I want something soft (not leather) and not firm, but also elegant/comfortable. can you help me to design my living room? what color should i paint, decorate?

ok so for color id do the walls a half strenght of turkish bread & your ceiling and cornice architrave etc do them vivid white. this is them together.

the great thing about this color is heaps of colors work with it. ive even seen bright blue and purple as feature walls with this color and it looked good, not that im suggesting a blue wall im just saying you wont have to really worry about matching the furniture with the paint.

It's a low-ceiling house with three compartments( living room-dining room, bedrrom and kitchen). I want to renovate it to make it look big and look elegant. I've plenty of books, computer table and kitchen appliances (gas range and microwave). Any tips on colors and texture of curtains, paint and black wooden furniture for dining set. I go for minimalist Zen look. Please tell me where to look for ideas on the Internet
