Drexel Dining Furniture

I found this great old dining set at a thrift store for $400. I had to tighten one of the pedestals and found an old paper under it that said DREXEL furniture company on it. I looked up their history and they became Drexel Heritage in 1974 and the company started in 1903, so I know it is somewhere between there. All of the chairs seem to have lines at the top like the very tops were taken off and put back on again. I was also wondering if I could cover the whole thing in a varnish, or protective finish because the wash on it seems to come off if it is wiped, would doing so deminish it's value, or should I just leave it alone. Any suggestions on a date and value for sale would be great. Please see pictures below. Thanks

That's a beautiful dining room set, and I wish I had the information for you but I was unable to find anything.
As far as the finish, if it is coming off, a natural, polyurethane coating (non-yellowing or waterborne type) would protect it (and keep the original state).

Would you pay $900 for this dining room set?

I am supposed to be buying this dining room set from a lady on Craigslist. I went to look at it yesterday and really like the style of the furniture. It's a 15-year old set and it's a Drexel Heritage collection. There are eight chairs (2 arm and 6 side), a buffet and china cabinet with hutch. The table also has two leafs. Overall, it is in good condition. There is a scratch on the left side of the table (on the top) that will need to be buffed out and repaired, but it's not too bad. The chair cushions are like cordouroy or something so I am going to buy some fabric that I like and recover them. Other than a couple of minor knicks (normal wear and tear) on the buffet everything looks good.

Do you think this is worth $900? I know you can't get quality furniture anywhere for that price, but I want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I need other opinions. In my living room I have chocolate brown leather with claw feet and hands (the wood is mahogany). The end tables and coffee tables are also a mahogany with marble tops. I like Victorian style furniture.

Is this furniture too old-fashioned for a 31 year old. I like stylish furniture but I like an antique/old look. I am not into contemporary.

I think if you like it then it's worth 900. It's not too old for a 31 yr old if you love the way it looks and it makes you happy. I say go for it!

Unfortunately I can't see the picture..
My thoughts are when you find something that your looking for you go that's it!! But when your going back and forth on it and going is this what I really want? It usually isn't.
But on another note if this is what you want but not to sure of the price, Then tell them your interested and would like to get, but offer them less for it..

Some people price things high then what they really want so if they get a lower offer it is usually around what they want for it.
