Distressed Dining Furniture

My dining room hutch has been discolored by some candlesticks. You can clearly see rings on the wood from where the candlesticks were. Any ideas how to clean this? It has a distressed white finish.

Try the Magic Erasers - special sponges first sold under Mr Clean brand. It's like microdermabrasion for walls and furniture. It works very well. You'll find them with sponges and cleansers at the grocery store and Wal-Mart.

We're building a Distressed Knotty Alder extension Dining Table, 42 wide by 84 long that extends to 120 inches with two 18 in leaf's.

I'm thinking about buying a house that has beautiful dark wood original trim around the windows and floor in the living room and dining room. Right now, both of those rooms are carpeted with a lightish tan color. I want to rip out the carpet in the dining room (these two rooms are next to each other) and install pergo laminate because I have dogs. I'll keep the carpet that's in the living room.

I was thinking I would go with all dark wood furniture, a dark leather couch that has a "distressed" look, and Indian Tigerwood Laminate Pergo Flooring.

Would all of this look good together? I think what's throwing me off is the dark wood trim. Everywhere I've looked the trim was white and seemed to be easier to decorate with.

I have a wood dining room table and chairs, as well as a wood desk. I have attempted to paint them in the past... with the table, I just painted high gloss wall paint on it, but it looks horrible! With the desk, I sanded it first, and then painted white oil paint on it, and it also looks aweful! The paint on both pieces is peeling off in spots... If I leave something heavy on it, the paint pulls off when I lift the object off of the table/desk.

What are the correct procedures to take to ensure that my furninture's paint stays on and looks good. I'm going for the shabby chic look (not with the distressed finish). I want the painted white furniture look. I have young children, so it needs to be something that is safe for them as well.

Any ideas, tips, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi I tried this before as well but my job came ut pretty good I made sure that I put a heavy coat of primer on the furniture before I painted the color that I wanted Good Luck

I am in the process of redoing my dining room, I am basing all my color choice around my window seat material. The material is black background with large hydrangeas in colors of salmon and alittle pink and taupe(all colors on material are muted and distressed looking) my walls are light salmon, my dining room furniture is black distressed color, my dishes that are displayed are taupe, and the floor is cherry hardwood, SO MY QUESTION is , I want to put a nice rug under the table, what color and pattern should I go with?

First of all I would go with a solid color rug I wouldn't add anything with a pattern to busy to much going on.

Taupe would work but gets dirty fast, the color of the hydrangeas is there a leaf with the flower, or just the flower, if there is a leaf, a green would work and if the rug is like a hunter green or in the green family it would pick up the window seat and tie it together.

Wow ! What a well written story! I never thought of some of these things but it is just a fairy tale. So...Goldilocks commits crimes of B&E, theft, (petty though with the porridge),
Now the chair is a felony, as it is valuable, and in crime four, she is just a dirty girl and should wash up the bedding. I'll let the judge sentence her and change this whole story.
What about Little Red Riding Hood? The wolf wants to eat her as he disguises himself as Grandma. Whatever shall we do to the big bad wolf?
The beauty of fairy tales is that we can make them anything we want to be. How cruel is it to sing a lullaby to your baby, when the bow breaks and the cradle will fall? If the baby lives, this is child abuse and if it doesn't it's murder. Interesting!
