Dining Server Furniture

This set was purchased in 1930s, American, very ornately carved, heavy, I think Oak, but tag actually says Walnut finish. Includes table with leaves that come out from underneath, 8 chairs (1 captain), server and china cabinet. Am unsure what Life Time Furniture Company is and how much this set may be worth - Thanks!!!

I would google and see if they have info on the brand of furniture, not all furniture is valuable because its older

I am looking for ideas for what to put on it. It now looks really plain. The style of the furniture is 'shaker' which is a little old fashioned. The walls are painted light gold and I do not have much around the dining set.

Start with a pair of "buffet lamps", placed on each end of the server. Hang a beautiful mirror over it that is at least half the length of the server. In other words, if the server is 70" long, the mirror length should be at least 35". Then put a large "charger" (or large decorative plate) on a display stand in the middle. Shaker is a very classic design that is simple & elegant. This style asks for not a lot of adornment, so keep it clean.

My parent's bought beautiful furniture when they moved in to their first (and only) home in the mid 50s. I believe it is mahogany, but unsure how to tell. I have searched and searched and come up with either Chippendale or Queen Anne ...

How do I go about getting someone to come in and appraise the furniture for us to sell it (and not have an appraiser give us an unfair price thinking he/she may buy it). I'm not kidding you ... this furniture is over 60 years old and really looks brand new.

There is a dining room suite with a table with two or three leaves, four side chairs and two arm chairs along with a buffet, server/sideboard, and china cabinet. There is a bedroom suite with a tall boy, long dresser, full bed with headboard and footboard and a night stand.

Where do I go to find out what kind of furniture this might be and how to get a fair price/appraisal?

Before getting someone to appraise your parents furniture for you, first things first. You have to know the current prices of furniture these days. That's because a 60 year old furniture may cost a high value or simply will become cheaper than the new furniture these days depending on what you know about the today's price of furniture. Have a lot of reference on where you can compare the prices of new ones to your parents 60 year old furniture.

Get all of ther family members into a QUIET AREA WITH NO DISTURBANCES, and go room, by room in your mind. CLOSE YOUR EYES, AND VISUALLY PICTURE Everything on each wall, one at a time. Use the note pad/s !!!! Write EVERYTHING down !!! Now, Above the walls, under the beds, under the sink, kitchen cabinets, bath rooms, cabinets, closets, 'nooks / crannies, under the various furnitures / chests / couches / tables / bookcases / etc,. Now the floors, carpets, rugs, wood floors, tile, what, where and sizes. Now, the ceilings, fans, lighting, hanging "whatevers".

This is hard right now but people have to start. One person can not take on this task alone. I wish there was a way there could be more volunteers to actually help the people survey their homes but many homeowners are weary of letting anyone on their property due to loss or damage.
This is the time family and friends need to ban together and make this process as easy as possible for those in need.
I don't think anyone on here can imagine the horror. The pictures on TV do no justice. A lot of people lost everything.
They all need our thoughts and prayers and blogs like this that give them ideas on how to effectively deal with the loss.
