Dining Room Buffet Furniture

Our cats have generally been compliant when we establish that an area like the kitchen counter is off limits, but they will not stay off our dining room table & buffet – which we’ve had for about a month. The sun hits both of these pieces for several hours a day each afternoon, which I think is their main motivation for misbehaving. No other window in the house provides as much sunlight. We are about to install window treatments which may help block the sun, but I don’t think that will completely solve the issue.

They both hate citrus smells, but I don’t know how to keep a steady stream of that aroma going. This is my great-grandparent’s furniture so I have to be careful about what sprays or oils I use on/around it to avoid damage. Orange Glo has been our ally in the past, but I don’t trust it on antiques. Is there anything else I can try? Generally no one is home when they’re doing this – we just find piles of cat hair and askew table cloths/runners when we come home.

you can try an air freshener with the citrus smell on it.

you could try to just put a blanket over it so she doesn't damage it if she wants to sleep on it

I need help deciding on furniture placement for an L-shaped living room and dining room combo. (The furniture in the photos below is not mine, only the room will be.)
The furniture I have is 2 sofas, an arm chair, an upright piano, a dining room table and chairs and a buffet cabinet. I will purchase end tables, and a coffee table as needed.

If you have suggestions on furniture placement, this would be helpful. I was thinking that the sofas should somehow be around the fireplace, but I wonder if that would look awkward.

I love Thomasville but it's out of my priceline. Is there any comparable dining room furniture that I can buy that won't kill me. I'm having it delivered to NC-by the beach in the spring. IKEA!!!!! I love ikea!! That is where i got all my furniture it is really cheap and really pretty!!! Just go onto ikea.com and order the 2009 catalog it is free and they also deliver furniture!!!

The suite includes a buffet, a two piece lighted china closet, an oval table with two leaves, six chairs and two captain's chairs with the original upholstery. It is either mahogany or walnut (I am not sure). It is from 1970 and is in excellent condition.

well White is an excellent brand, high end.Today that set might cost $15k. In 1970 it probably cost $2000.your not going to get more than the original cost .I'd guess $1200.

it is an older house very small on one wall the bedroom doors are off the livingroom, on the other there is two windows, on the shorter walls is the entrance into the livingroom from out side and the other short wall in entrance into the kitchen, the living room is long but is cut inhalf with furniture couch loveseat and tv at one end, and dining room set with buffet and hutch at the other, would you paint it all one color or try and break it up into two rooms

i also have a living room that big, dark green carpet i put in, my furniture is vanilla colred however, and oak. i painted the walls a cream/ light almond color. i dont think you would want to go too dark becuase of the darkness of the furniture and carpet.
