My living and dining rooms are in an open L shape. The walls are pale cream. Dining room furniture is cream lacquer with brass trim. Living room furniture is a cream background with a narrow old rose stripe and a wide delicate leafy floral stripe in pale green/old rose/blue. I have two slate-ish blue chairs. The floors are oak hardwood (I just ripped up cream wall to wall). I need area rugs, but I'm baffled by trying to get something to go with the floral furniture. I thought to get a green in the living room and the same rug but lapis in the dining room. I don't want anything dark, my whole house is airy and light colored. I'm looking at Milliken border rugs. I like the Remington but am afraid it's too severe. I looked at one with an Ionica border, but am not sure about the floral border with my floral furniture even tho they are both delicate. Oriental style is not an option. I have grandsons who are often here so a too light color might not be good. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What I really need is suggestions on patterns.
Go into your local carpet store and select a really nice carpet that suits your style. Have them order a large enough piece and have it bound to the exact size you want it.
Then you can get a really nice, well wearing rug and not spend an arm and a leg on it.

the chairs are chippendale style, chandelier is glass and crystal
what sofa or couch would match this look?
what did they have then?
thanks, oldgirlINDY!!
my friends think it's too different, but I love that old-fashioned look.
Leather would look great with this dining room furniture. I would go with dark brown and highlight the couches with your color scheme for the sofa pillows.
Leather will stay nice for years and they are pet and kid friendly. Very easy to take care of. Great if you have allergys also.
By the way that is a beautiful piece of furniture - very nice!

Elegant armless chair with gently tapered back and legs
Multi colored brown and blue leaf design; 100-percent polyester
Works great in the dining room, bedroom, living room or office
In the dining room, I want a dark wood/glass table with dark wood/black leather chairs.
In the living room, I have a green couch and want glass/metal coffee table.
The living room and dining room are in the same space (open concept) back to back. Does this color scheme fit ?
It's important to have a good visual flow from one room to another, but they don't have to match perfectly. Try to incorporate some green into the dining room and some dark wood colors into the living room.

I recently moved into a 2BR apartment in which the living room and dining room open into each other and both are painted a sand color (the exact color is Behr Sandpoint 270E-2). I need to furnish both rooms completely and I'm wondering what colors I should consider for the couches, coffee/end tables, and dining room table. Any help at all would be really appreciated!
With sand, pretty much anything will go. Think of it like a pair of khaki pants. When you put on your khakis, you really don't even think about the color of your shirt - you just grab anything because it all works.
In my opinion, I would go with all earth tones, with an olive colored seating set, such as:

light oak coffee/end tables:

and a cream dining set:

My house is a raised ranch. My living rrom and dining room, hallway and entry way are all the same wall basically. I painted it a mustard yellowy golden color for walls. The ceiling is a buttery yellowish color. I have a dining room set that could adapt to the Tuscan theme. I am changing my old living room furniture. What should I buy? I want a love seat and 2 side chairs only. Coffee table and probably 1 end table. I was looking on line for pictures of Tuscan decor. I can't find them. I'm finding pictures of places in Italy but not appropriate for my budget or taste. What colors should I buy for furniture? My kitchen is in a dark red brickcolor which goes well with the gold in the other rooms, since you see all the rooms as you come up the staris and I have red and gold accent pieces in my kitchen.
Can someone help?
it sound like it's bright. But it really isn't with everything put back into it. I wish I could show you guys a picture. At night, especially, the room look like they glow.
I went with a Tuscan theme in my house too. Burgundy, yellow, turquoise, olive green are my colors. I have an open floor plan and plan on painting all my walls a goldish brown.
Southern living has unique Tuscan style housewares, see site below, I have the olive jar.
I think an olive green love seat or chaise in velvet would look classy perhaps a few wrought iron pieces (benches, end tables, side chairs painted black) old vintage posters or replicas, postcards and wood signs look cool. An old farm kitchen table can be used behind the sofa/loveseat or the legs cut off for a coffee table. Small ceramic tiles are a neat accent on a shelf or hung in multiples on the wall, over a window or a door. Chandeliers, sconces, wine rack and pottery add the feel of Tuscany.
here's a little project for ya;
get a shadow box and fill with winecorks or toss a bunch of corks in a basket.

I need some help with my living room furniture layout...pic ...
The challenge I'm having is with arranging my furniture. There is a fire place on a wall that is about 45 degree angle. I have a flat panel TV hanging above it. I have a matching sofa and love seat combo, but I'm having trouble with the corner in the lower right. I'm not sure what to do with it. I had a chair positioned diagonally there, but it seemed like wasted space. I also have a rug with a glass coffee table that is accessible by both the sofa and love seat.
Do you have any suggestions for arranging this furniture differently?
I have gorgeous wood (oak) floors, my furniture is black leather and the walls are a light sage green with a crisp white baseboard as trim. My style is contemporary. There are windows all along the walls on the bottom of the picture.
Thank you for any ideas you may have
) Your floor plan is pretty good actually. What I would do is put the accent chair either snugged close to the fireplace (as long as it's not too big), or, if the seat needs to see the TV, place the chair opposite the fireplace on that kitchen wall. If this floor plan is to scale & each square = 1', then there's enough walk room left over for a small accent chair. As for your sofa/love seat placement, if your rendering is accurate, snug your sofa & love seat together so that the arms almost touch. I don't see any end tables, so I would put a square one in between your sofa & love seat with a table lamp. Between the sofa & fireplace & then next to the open end of the love seat, place either 2 floor lamps or wall mounted swing arm lamps. Then the only thing needed next to the love seat would be a one long piece of artwork (almost floor to ceiling), or a series of coordinating pictures that take up at least half of that negative space. Add some pillows to compliment your chair, & your artwork should compliment the chair as well.
