How do I paint an oak dining table?

I have an oak dining table. It is relatively new and the finish is in great condition. I just don't like the color; it is very light. I looked into refinishing, but that sounds rather difficult. Would painting it be easier? Would I still have to completely remove the finish?

I really like the look of dark furniture, and I think I would like it painted black. Would I regret painting a nice solid oak table?

Thanks!

they both take about the same amount of work..just practice staining first if your going to do that instead of paint

to paint-sand down the finish..it doesnt have to be all gone just get rid of the top clear coat layer-put on a primer (since your going dark i want to say use a tinted one)-use some sand parer and lightly sand this so that there arent any brush strakes for the top coat-put on one or two coats of your chosen colour-put on a finsih sealing coat

staining/refinishing-sand it down until all the finish is gone-make sure you wipe the tabel down so their is no dust or dirt on it-aplly the stain using a brush following the grain-put on another coat, maybe even more if needed-put on a finish coat

* if you dont know how to stain just ask on here again:P
**personalyl i would regret painting the table..but whatever makes you happiest you should do:P plus if you paint it and regret it you can always and it down and refinish it

Would you paint your walls dark brown if you have oak bannister, oak floors & wood furniture?

My only piece of furniture in the room is a cream couch. I tried some taupe type colours & they look awful. The room has 3 sky lights & three skinny windows. It is a living/dining room. The front entrance hall is narrow . The kitchen which is at the end of the hall is yellow & terra cotta colours The paint will be in the entrance, up a staircase, down a hall, & living & dining room. Any suggestions for colours.

Try a nice muted blue. That would look very nice.

Can you have Expresso Brown Dining furniture next to black leather sofa's?

Hi

Having a real problem at the moment as we want to buy a new dining set which is Oak and has the High back leather chairs but can't find any anywhere in black as all the sets in the shops the chairs are expresso brown which is quite dark. My problem is my house has a lounge diner and my Sofa's are Black leather. Would the Expresso brown leather clash with the black leather?

Thanks for your help!

It's a wonderful contrast. The mistake would be trying to match the leathers instead of having the dining set compliment the sofa and give more depth and tone to the room.

Light or Dark Wood Furniture?

Moving into an apartment next week, white walls, white blinds, beige carpet, oak colored cabinets. Should I pick light or dark wood furniture? Dark wood fits my personality better (traditional) but I don't think I would like all dark wood through out the apartment. What are the pro's and con's of each type of wood. Also, can I mix and match? light in the bedroom, dark in the living room / dining area or vice versa.

No decorating sense whatsoever would welcome any/all opinions.

i buy whatever i like. however keep in mind that dark furniture will make a room feel more crowded so if you have small rooms maybe consider a medium or light tone. but with all the white walls etc...you probably will be ok with dark anyway.

What color should I paint my living/dining room?

Hi. I need help with painting my living room and the dining room. I have chocolate brown sofas/coffee table, beige carpet in the living room. The Dining room has Oak Furniture. The entrance has Brazilian Cherry Color Hardwood. The living room and the dining room are attached. I don't want to paint it a really dark color because then it will make the entire area seem small. I was thinking of doing something light all over with a dark accent color. Can you please suggest some colors?

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "eaglet beige" (# 7573) with an accent wall in "enticing red" (# 6600) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  • Oak dining furniture – durable and attractive materials | Home ...

When selecting a dining table, always look for something that is at a comfortable height with chairs that can easily fit underneath. Moreover, the dining furniture that you select should also be strong, sturdy, reliable, good looking and convenient to use.

Oak possesses all the above qualities. This is probably the reason why it is preferred by many people. Due to the immense popularity of oak dining furniture, it is now available in a large number of different styles. You can easily select one, from the most traditional to the most.

    Choosing the right dining furniture

When browsing for dining furniture, you must know what you are actually looking for. The designs of dining tables have now generally become simpler. However, with the availability of oak dining furniture in a range of designs and sizes, you can purchase one that ideally suits your requirements and matches the interiors of your home.

The sturdiness of oak is also a reason for its widespread use. Although oak dining furniture is a little more expensive, it lasts for a lifetime. If you want to go with the best, most durable and attractive dining room furniture, oak is the best option.
