Need help picking a dining room table.?

Hi,

My living/dining room is 23 x 15. I like this picture of a room from Eddie Bauer Home;

http://www.eddiebauer.com/custserv/eddie bauerhome.jsp?pageName=lakeside .

I'm not sure if I inserted the link correctly.....you can also google Eddie Bauer Lakeside Cottage to look at the picture.

Does anyone know of a dining room table that would complement this style? I like the black painted furniture, but I also like dark stained wood.

Thanks,
Daisy
Thanks for the answers. Both websites were very informative. I ultimately picked Room and Board as the best answer because I had never heard of the company before. Always great to learn something new.

check out www.roomandboard.com many styles! enjoy

What color should I stain my table?

We are moving to a new house, our current house does not have a dining room so we have no furniture for it. We also don't have money for it right now. I do however have my grandmother's old hutch and table. They are very simple, nothing ornate about them....which I love. I am thinking I want to use a color stain, like Cabot. I have used it before on a dresser. I need help picking out a color. My style is kind of cottage-y. We live just a few blocks from the ocean and will be having kind of a beach cottage look.
So out of these stains, at this link which do you like?

I like Bayberry, Cottonwood, Limestone, Peppermill and Sea Stone.
The china that I will be using it Kate Spade, White with platinum band.
Thank you!

Limed oak..it has that weathered, cottage-y feel.

Updating a 70's style house....help!?

We are purchasing a 1977 styled home. The home is 1020sq. ft with cathedral ceilings (which my husband wants to lower and make a regular ceiling.) You arrive in the entry way immediately into the living room to the left, dining room strait ahead and kitchen to the left of the dining room. There are currently partial walls up that we will knock down to make one great big space for all the rooms. Now, this home is soooo different than what I am used to and would like any suggestions on open floor plans that you may have. All three rooms are on the small side so open floor plan will make it seem more spacious. Upon opening the front door, after walls are knocked down, you will be able to see all 3 rooms at the same time. Any tips on making a really comfy new home for us and our 2 girls? Also, I was thinking of a white kitchen to match my current table and chairs. New livingroom furniture country/cottage style with white end and coffee tables. There is a fireplace with all brick on the far wall . Once walls are down, half the wall will be brick for the entire livingroom (which I don't like) and then the kitchen is just drywall. It will look really bad half and half. Just trying to give you an idea on what it looks like. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions!
These walls are not all the way to the ceiling. They just stop a few feet under the cathedral ceilings. They are not load bearing walls.
The brick is a yucky brown/tan that I want to lighten up to a white. Now, we don't know if it is actually real brick or just the fake stuff. If it's real brick, we won't remove it but if it's not, then maybe we can do something about it. My hubby really wants the ceiling gone for heating reasons. I did express the concern of the first answer, and I too think both of you are right about keeping that ceiling but I know he wants rid of it though. I know it will visually make it smaller so I figure that if we lighten the space up with light colors ( I was thinking of a light sage green ) and all white trim, touches of bead board in the kitchen and light ceiling. The dining room has a patio door that looks out into all woods behind it. Great view. It is a small house I know, but great location and neighborhood..all one level. Oh, what if that brick is really brick. Is there a stain or paint to lighten it with? Maybe, he will change his mind about the ceiling once we get it?Thanks

I would keep the ceilings and put Tong and groove pine boards on it. Stain the wood a bleached white. It will go with your colors and also open up the space to make the room look larger. Paint the walls in a lighter color maybe a blue or green (but very light) You didn't say what kind of brick the wall was, what color is it?

If it is real brick I would keep it and talk to a home improvement center to see what you could paint or stain it with. We installed a large ceiling fan and keep it on low ( it has a remote) in the winter It really helps with the heat problem and looks nice too.

Dark cabinets in a cottage kitchen??

Can that work? I love the cognac stained oak cabinets from Kraftmaid, and I think they look like those antique oak stained pieces of furniture that people love so much. And with soft colored walls and vintage jars and different things passed down from my Grandma do you think it would look good? Does anyone know where I could find a picture like this on the internet so I can almost see my future kitchen before having to make a final decision? I like cream colored cabinets too but sometimes then there is too much light and not enough dark to anchor the room. I know forsure our dining table will be a rich wood color. But I still think the room would then be too light and not enough of a cozy "hug". Anyone help?

Insted of going so dark, choose a more natural wood tone like medium or light cherry.

  • The Continueing Saga of my Kitchen renovation - Cottage Beach House

Good thing all the new ones fit in the garage. There is no way there would be any room to move, had we put any in the dining area like I was thinking!  So they started by taking all the old cabinets out of the house. Some will be recycled by my son for his house and others will be trashed. Then moving furniture that I had tried but could not get moved.  Men are funny creatures. My hubbo and the electrician BOTH wanted to give me a cable line in the kitchen. I vehemently opposed it. We already have way too many TVs. The kitchen is the only place we really gather and just "talk". I like that. And already when I am watching tv in the family room, if my husband is watching it in the living room, sometimes his tv is too loud. Could you just imagine another one blaring from the kitchen?. Oh Please! Haha.. they also wanted to give me a computer line in there. Hub is a bit behind the times...I've been on a wireless laptop for 4 years... don't need it... don't want it.
