Okay, so I my dad got me a really nice apartment.
After buying all kinds of furniture, decorating the apartment, painting and all that whatnot... I realize that I kind of went overboard on the contemporary look.
After spending a fortune on nice, awesome looking glass furniture I have turned into a total nut. My coffee table and end tables, desk, shelves, and stuff (thank god I did get a glass dining room table) have glass surfaces.
It seems they're really hard to keep clean. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Any tips would be much appreciated.
While I can't tell you the best way to keep them clean (other than dust every day and never touch any of it with your bare hands, which doesn't seem practical), I can tell you the best way to clean them. Use Windex and balled-up newspaper. Spray on the Windex, rub it with the newspaper. I don't know why but the newspaper gets off every last bit of grease, dust and fingerprints. It also doesn't leave any streaks usually. Hope this helps at least a little and good luck!
Edit: If you don't want to use chemicals in your home, use a mixture of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water in a spray bottle. It will work just as well. It's also great for cleaning countertops, stainless steel appliances and many more things!

I have looked everywhere for a dining table that will fit six people. I want a frosted glass top and a contemporary funky kind of look. I have looked at 100's of tables and can't find what I'm looking for. I don't want to spend more than $1,000 for the table if possible. Help please.
I have purchased from immod and they have very nice furniture. Also Eurway is the best as far as prices and quality. I have bought quite a few things there and I have been happy with them. Eurway is Austin based and I believe they pretty much ship anywhere. They also carry a lot of the modern classics at affordable prices. I will post the link . Hope this helps

my house has an open floor plan. the walls are a shade lighter than mustard yellow. my formal dining room is right next to the living room and it has traditional oak furniture and it has a buffet with a charcoal gray marble top. my hearth room is also next to my living room becuase it is right in front of my kitchen, which has stainless steel appliances and uba tuba (ooba tooba?) green granite counter tops along with cherry cabinets. The hearth room has contemporary black leather furniture and black glass tables.
how can i coordinate my living room to look good with both my traditional-style formal dining room and my contemporary hearth room.
please let me know if you need any more information.
any suggestions for stores are welcome. links with pieces that you like from stores like Bombay and Pier One would also be very helpful.
thanks!
The "experts" say pick a color scheme and carry it throughout--sounds like you have a relatively "blank palate" with black leather furniture. If it were me, I'd choose say three colors..and make one the dominant color in each room..and accent with the other two in the rooms.
Martha Stewart would probably say mix textures and fabrics, as wel. Maybe a print (chintz) would be good in the dining room. With black leather, you could do something more shiny (not satin, but something like it?) for pillows. Add a throw, or even a couple of nice artsy sort of pieces. Play off the colors of the chintz in the dining room.
You've got mustard yellow walls, green and gray countertops. Depending on your yellow (is it a blue-ish or yellowish yellow?) you could add some shades of green, maybe a rust or blue tones. I'd find a color wheel (like paint stores have, or decorating books) and look at what's next to the wall colors on either side. Those are your complementary colors.
I've also seen some wood items (frames, boxes, shelving units) that are black with a wood reveal..that might be a nice tie-in to bring some of the wood from one room into the black leather/glass room. (Hmmm...I feel like finding a paintbrush myself!)

Hello, last week I was surfing the net and came across a unique furniture accessory I would like to purchase, however cannot locate the website which sold them. I will try to describe it to the best of my ability. Picture a sofa with a medium/large arm rests. Now picture a sort of durable placemat that can be draped over one of the arm rests and is sturdy enough to hold a glass/drink. This is the purpose of this item. To look contemporary/modern and also be functional. It was dark gray durable plastic or metal and is no larger than a normal placemat for your dining room table. But this can be rolled as it drapes over the arm rest. Thank you for any help! :)
history on browser all deleted so I have no record of the site.
I don't know what it is called, but it sure sounds like something that IKEA would sell, have you checked their site? Good Luck!
Hello,
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n507 /ejones95926/livingroom.jpg
This is a quick floorplan of the kitchen, dining and living room of my house. It's a small house, but these rooms are all open to each other (the kitchen counter comes around in a U shape but there aren't any overhread cabinets or anything). The ceilings are vaulted so it seems like a lot of space.
The challenge I'm having is with arranging my furniture. There is a fire place on a wall that is about 45 degree angle. I have a flat panel TV hanging above it. I have a matching sofa and love seat combo, but I'm having trouble with the corner in the lower right. I'm not sure what to do with it. I had a chair positioned diagonally there, but it seemed like wasted space.
I also have a rug with a glass coffee table that is accessible by both the sofa and love seat.
Do you have any suggestions for arranging this furniture differently?
I have gorgeous wood (oak) floors, my furniture is black leather and the walls are a light sage green with a crisp white baseboard as trim. My style is contemporary. There are windows all along the walls on the bottom of the picture.
Thank you for any ideas you may have :o)
The front door is the door on the upper left. The door on the bottom (in the dining room) goes to the back yard.
Your floor plan is pretty good actually. What I would do is put the accent chair either snugged close to the fireplace (as long as it's not too big), or, if the seat needs to see the TV, place the chair opposite the fireplace on that kitchen wall. If this floor plan is to scale & each square = 1', then there's enough walk room left over for a small accent chair. As for your sofa/love seat placement, if your rendering is accurate, snug your sofa & love seat together so that the arms almost touch. I don't see any end tables, so I would put a square one in between your sofa & love seat with a table lamp. Between the sofa & fireplace & then next to the open end of the love seat, place either 2 floor lamps or wall mounted swing arm lamps. Then the only thing needed next to the love seat would be a one long piece of artwork (almost floor to ceiling), or a series of coordinating pictures that take up at least half of that negative space. Add some pillows to compliment your chair, & your artwork should compliment the chair as well.
Here's an idea for an accent chair if the one you have is too big. Remember, it would go next to the fireplace, but can easily be moved for TV viewing.
