Best Dining Furniture

I'm looking to buy and new dining room set. I like wood but the last set we had was very soft. I think it was pine. Anyway I'm looking for a durable wood that would be good with a little one. Any ideas?

Oak is hard -- any wood from a tree that loses its leaves will be harder than wood from a pine or evergreen. You can also look for a "distressed" finish (not perfectly smooth to start with, but looks gently worn), or get something cheap, like at IKEA, and replace it in a couple years. Or, put pads on the chairs and a glass top on the table to keep it from getting marred. We have a glass top on our wooden table, and while I do have to clean it after every meal, I also realize that a wooden table would be just as dirty -- it's just that the dirt would hide better. (Ew.)

Well, something more rustic would probably work. If you went too modern, it would clash with the house. I am not one for being all matchy-matchy with decor, but low lines, sharp corners, and chrome might look a bit odd with a log home. At the same time, something too similar would look monotonous and boring.

If the logs are visible on the inside of the home, perhaps getting something in the same wood, but a different shade of the same color as the wood could work. If the place is log only on the outside and drywalled on the inside, you have more options on the color and type of wood.

You could also go for something that has a stone top or a stone look. You keep with the natural/rustic feel, but don't go overboard on the wood look.

Upholstery (assuming that's what you're doing with the chairs) could be solid or a very simple design - thin lines, but not really stripes or small dots. You don't have to go crazy here either and do leaves or trees to keep with the log home.

Some are the white water spots but the main ones are from a heated pan ... even though they had a towel underneath.

Not sure about a burn, but with water spots my mom always went for the mayonaise, wierd I know, but it's amazing, you smear it on (a bunch) leave it for about 10 minutes, then come back with a papertowel and wipe off. You might be able to see a tiny bit, but it's usually gone. I think it's the oil from the mayo, not sure but it works.

I have some very heavy furniture pcs. and am having Pergo floors installed - what would best furniture sliders be to use? Also, have dining room table,and chairs that will be on area carpet but when moving chairs back, back chair legs will be on Pergo floor.

I recently bought a package of twenty different sizes from Lowes, They have a large assortment of sliders in their store.

SO many of our friends love Nebraska Furniture Mart. We like Slumberland but overall I love CRAIGSLIST....You can get new, near new or well taken care of solid wood items for rock bottom prices. Hard to get good solid wood in retail stores anymore.
