Bargain Dining Furniture

I am new here in Virginia Fairfax county and have rented an apartment. I have to furnish it with wall to wall carpet or Area rugs and with furnitures - dining table (4 chairs), bed, mattress, sofa and coffee table. I am in Falls Church and recently came in US, so no idea of the good stores/bargain shops etc. My budget is tight so have to go for low cost items but DECENT.

In penny pinching times, we can't always afford the fancy things we want... but there is a way to be thrift and still enjoy great looking ...

Specifically, I have a few larger ticket items, such as some nice living room/dining room furniture that I got from a decorator about 7 years ago. It was hardly used, but the sofa was about $1500 and I have a set of 4 matching upholstered parsons chairs that were about $1200.

Is it fair to label the sofa $20 and the set of 4 chairs for $20 and be willing to bargain down to $16 for each?

I have no idea, since I normally take goods and donate them.

Start higher, 200-300 and bargin down.

I recently bought a dining table at a local furniture store, last night when we finished assembling it I noticed that it had minor chips that are noticeable. I got the table at a bargain. The original price was $899 and I bought it for $479. Should I cover the chips with something I can get from Home Depot or should i return the table and ask for another one?

Contact the store, often they have people that will come to your place and fix or replace the items. It is very common for flat packed furniture to arrive in less than perfect condition. It's not like they gave you the special deal because it was damaged, they gave that deal because they can't move their furniture, you still have every right to expect a perfect table. Don't take no for an answer, if they won't fix or replace give it back and tell them were they can stick their table. This economy is in favour of the buyer, if they don't want your business give it to someone else. They also may ofer you further discounts if they don't have a sevice company. The table is new it should look it.
