I have a beige/white leather couch, and all dark wood (espresso) furniture. The house is very contemporary and I have marble in the dining room and entrance (crema cappuccino marble).
Should I do light or dark or medium wood? I do like bamboo...

Medium to medium dark would be nice, but...the darker your floor, the more dust and pet hair will show, so be prepared..I have medium dark oak planking and pets..I have to either vacuum or dust the floor every single day. The deeper colour looks rich and elegant...I love the darker woods and in my eyes are worth it...oh..and the darker the colour, the more it will show scratches too..just be aware of pros and cons before deciding.

We are thinking of taking up the carpets in our living room, dining room, hall and downstairs toilet. We have two dogs and it's really hard to keep the carpets clean.
We have looked at some beautiful jatoba and bamboo samples which will go well with our furniture.
Please don't say keep the dogs in the kitchen. We won't do that.
What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of replacing carpets with wood.
I have wood floors and to medium to large dogs..
I prefer wood floors to carpet myself...
just follow manufactures clean and maintance requirments.
The warm feeling and the versatility is worth it to me..
Cost effective in long term...my floors have been here for 30years also is healthier than 30year old carpet.lol..
Easy to clean up dog hair and other maintance required with having dogs...
Disadvange
Wood floors require maintance and inspection.
Dogs may slip can be bad for dogs hips...(88lbs)
Best to have dog beds or palets for them on wood flooring.
Salt can cause damage so extra care around entrances.
We use runners now in areas where my dianna is likely to slip.
Fashionable colors and attractive design will compliment any décor
Easy to install and stretches to fit most leg shapes. Size Small fits 1 to 1 3/4 inch
Rubberized grips on the inside to help keep the socks on
We are just moving into a new house. The first floor is open concept. The kitchen has birch coloured cabinets and a brownish counter top with a terra cotta back splash. The problem is, the kitchen has an overall all pinkish hue. We are trying to find a colour to offset this pink (thinking BM spiced rum) but it has to coordinate with the rest of the space and up through to the upstairs. The living/dining area has bamboo floors and the front hallway is a beige tile. We are not afraid of colours and have mostly black furniture and would love to have orange accents. what colour combos would coordinate with this? The rooms include kithen, living/dining area, front hallway and stairs.
Terra Cotta also has oranges in it as well as pink so you could paint the walls a reddish-orange to draw that hue out. Then you adding the true Orange accents will minimize the pink even more

I am looking to decorate my living room and dining room that are actually in the same room. I'd like to have a different theme in each room but have some element that ties them together. In the living room, the couches are a mint/sage green with dark chocolate tables with frosted glass. The focal point in the room is a picture I got in Jamaica of women in sugarcane fields. They are black stick figures with colorful clothes (yellow, pink, blue) with a green/yellow background in a dark chocolate frame. I am adding little accents in pink for a splash of color. In the dining room has the dark chocolate furniture too, but I would like to do an asian theme with maybe some bamboo pieces and maybe silver/gold two tone accents. I haven't found anything to use as a focal point yet but it will probably be the centerpiece. Now my dilemma is what to do with the windows. Because it's the same room, I need to put the same window treatments on both windows. What would go with both themes/rooms? I kinda like the sliding panels, but I'm not sure what color and if it would go in both rooms.
A satiny green would work since it gives the feel of Jamaica but also belongs in an Asian themed room The cheapest way to check this out is take some paint samples to a Fabric Store or JoAnn's fabrics and look at the satins. See if this is the look you are seeking.
I have a 1BR apt facing South. Here's a little more about it... My theme is Asian/Feng Shui but I've also accepted Morocco into the scheme of things as I found two guardian dogs @ Pier 1. I'm buying the Dragon June Rug @ Pier 1 if that helps for the Living Rm.
DINING RM/KITCHEN:
Enter into the dining area. The apartment has been rehabbed. My tiles are marble-esque I guess. They're a really light gray/beige/white... To the right upon entry is a closet with sliding doors which I use as a coat closet/broom closet. To the right is my teeny kitchen. I call it a turn around kitchen. You walk in, turn around, and you're already out. There is a 6' row of cabinets w/ sink and the stove on the right and Fridge on the left. The kitchen is MAYBE 6-8' by 5'. I have an iron sconce on the dining room wall going into the kitchen. I also have an iron mirror on the wall straight ahead of entry into my apt.
LIVING ROOM:
If you go back to the front door, the living room is straight ahead but slightly to your left. The separation between the carpet & tile is on an angle. The carpet is light beige. My furniture is tan microfiber and all the dang tables are OAK. I'm tired of OAK. I have plans to sand down all the tables and paint them black this spring. I have a papsan, loveseat, sofa, tv & stand, DVD rack, 2 end tables & a coffee table. For decorating, I have bought a 3X4' mirror but it hasn't made it onto the wall just yet. I also have an imported Japanese vase (about 3' tall) that I fell in love with. I have a bamboo screen draped with 2 or 3 yards of teal silk imprinted with a Japanese print. There are sliding glass doors on the back wall of the living room that face South. I have a 5X8' balcony.
BEDROOM:
Upon coming in, go past the entry/broom/coat closet. There is another linen closet immediately to the right. just 2 or three more feet ahead is the end of the hall. There is another closet with 3 high shelves because it houses my teeny water heater. This is the game closet. To the right is the bathroom and the left is the bedroom.
Upon entering the bedroom, there are four closet doors (two closets with two mirrored sliding doors each). The window is straight ahead facing south. I have a queen sized bed, nightstand and armoir. There is also a 4' folding table which serves as my computer desk. I have no where else in the apartment to put it. I am going with a black & pink theme in the bedroom.
I know this is rather lengthy but I want to get some good suggestions. I am looking to PAINT accent walls in the Dining Room and Living Room.
Please HELP! :)
Moroccan colours tend to be the oranges and deep blues, perhaps an accent wall or two in both rooms? but matching if they're opening on to one another. The rest in cream (I'm not a fan of too much colour on walls). It'd need to be an earthy shade of either colour, not too orangey or blue - more of a burnt orange or a vibrant blue (but not turquoisey).
As for Feng Shui, is the mirror in the entry directly facing the door? It's recommended not to have it facing directly.

Dining Room Furniture: Tips to Help You Arrange your Dining Room
Dining place holds a special importance in every household. This is the place where you enjoy your daily meal with your family and also share thoughts and views with them. It is therefore important that the dining room furniture of your home is comfortable and cozy to give a feeling of warmth and belonging. Know the tips on how to decorate your dining room with the suitable dining room furniture so that people will love to visit your home and have a great time eating and chatting in the comfort of your dining hall.
The first thing that is very common in dining rooms is the light fitting. Normally we get to see that the light arrangement is made on the wall by the side of the table. You can try something new to make your dining room look unique yet elegant. Place the dining table towards the corner of the room rather than towards the wall. Angle your light fittings differently so that the dining room has a soothing light effect and gives a cozy feel.
By dining room furniture, we generally mean chairs and a table. Instead of the regular chair and table sets, you can opt for some new design such as rot iron dining room furniture, handicraft item dining room furniture, bamboo dining room furniture to name a few. Arrange the furniture is your own style and liking to give your dining room a touch of your own creation.
