Baker Dining Room Furniture

Around early November 2008 I had a friend who kept asking me to move in with him. Finally I agreed, but told him I didn’t want to sign a lease because I didn’t want to live there that long. He agreed and stated to me that was fine and that it would be helping him out because he was largely in financial debt. Once moved in I wasn’t allowed to have any furniture in the living room or dining room, nor curtains, or even replace the shower head with a new one. My friends and I could not even watch television in the living room because he would sleep on the couch. I continued to live there and in or about July he approached me with a lease contract. I informed him that I did not want to sign a lease because I was planning on moving out due to the poor quality of the house and having only one bathroom but mainly because we did not get along at all. He stated that his name was on the lease and that I only had to put mine on there to show I was living there and that I could move out whenever. I agreed and he even had the landlord put a 90 day clause so he could move out. I didn’t think much of it and singed it. I also figured since it wasn’t notarized it wasn’t my name going on the lease. As time went by living conditions worsened. I couldn’t park my vehicle in the driveway; he would use all the hot water and occupy the bathroom for hours. I did all the cleaning and maintained the outside property such as cutting the lawn. Due to his uncleanliness ants and other insects were constantly in the kitchen and numerous dirty plates in the sink from him would attract fly’s. Finkle matter was almost always on the toilet seat and general vicinity even after I cleaned it. I also had no privacy in the restroom or even within my own personal bedroom. He would enter the restroom and bedroom unannounced on a daily basis. Once my girlfriend and I woke up in the middle of the night and saw him taking something off my nightstand. That really freaked us out because one…it was the middle of the night….two…he knew she was over……three more door was closed…..and four its my room stay out!!! I even went to the extreme of telling him to stop numerous times and even had a lock placed on the inside of my door. While sleeping he would pound…..I mean pound not knock on the outside of my door and would yell for me to wake up. The first time he did this I asked him what he wanted and he stated he needed my laundry basket so he could do laundry. After that I did not respond to his pounding. On numerous times he would pound and shout through the door for long periods of time. On the last incident he pounded on my bedroom door while I was asleep and began yelling. When I did not respond he began to force the door open. He forced the door so hard that the lock broke and he then proceeded to shake me until I was awake. He then asked for a ride somewhere. The harassment only continued. While asleep with my girlfriend he came home highly intoxicated and began to beat on the door and yell” wake up”. She was so bothered by this that she did not feel safe around him and did not want to come over. After the last incident I did not feel safe or comfortable in my own bedroom and advised him late October I was moving in with my girlfriend, which he had previously known I was going to. He even suggested that she move in with us. I’ve been staying there for a while now anyway so I moved all my stuff out. I cleaned the room before leaving and even gave him a brand new air condition valued at $300 bucks and a bakers rack for the kitchen valued at $150. I paid him for November rent too which gave him 30 days notice and offered to find him a roommate, which he refused. After that I did not receive any message from him. To be honest I would have gave him another month’s rent if he asked for it because I was so happy to get away from him. The other day I received a subpoena in the mail saying he was suing me for $3,000. Does he have a case?
I was looking for a different job and was in a serious relation ship so I didn't want to be there too long. He told me I could move out if I gave him notice.

Yeah he has a case, he will win it too. 95% of the post doesn't matter in the slightest. All that matters is that you signed a lease (they are never notorized), you broke that lease, and he suffered a loss due to your actions. Was it 3000? I don't know. It will be rent from when you left to when the lease expires or another roommate moves in. Your gifts will not alter the fact that you owe him money.
