White Cottage Bedroom Furniture

We are looking for a certain style of bedroom furniture. Described as follows: The bed must be antique white colored on the bottom- but the top canopy part of the bed must still be a wood finish- the antique white cottage effect is what is desired and the bed is essential in this- she wants exactly that- old cottage style antique white poster/canopy bed- but the top has to be that solid top and its gotta be the wood finish- what is that called???? where can we buy it??? thank you
yeah- weve tried ebay- the problem is we dont know what its called... my mom is the one who wants the furniture- shes not buying a bed (literally) until she finds this one... its crazy- but yeah - i need to know what its called - then the decorator can find it- i may rephrase and repost this question

My husband and I are looking to buy new bedroom furniture and I really want black with a 4 poster bed (not laminate black, but maybe distressed?) and really want to make the room look "beachy." I was even thinking of an iron bed and then black dressers, night tables, etc. Is this even possible? We are painting the room a very pale blue and adding white beadboard around the lower walls. I was thinking of a white matelasse comforter, but just don't know if the black furniture will work? I'm afraid that white furniture will limit us too much in the future though. Any ideas would be great!

My bedroom is very similar to what you are describing. I love it and anyone that's seen it is equally impressed.
It can be done. Consider black and white dramatic ocean scenes framed in black or white. While black doesn't bring to mind the ocean for most of us, remember, there are islands with black beach sands. Maybe add some reddish coral color to to the room as well in the form of bed pillows or a throw blanket. Make sure your window treatments are light and airy. That really is the key to an ocean theme, open, light and airy. Don't clutter the room with too many items, keep it simple. I personally think it will look great.

the color is weathered blue. My dressers are cherry wood (dark) and all the wood trim in the room is white. I had thought of doing the white beadboard as well but thought it would compete too much with my bed. I have a white chennile bedspread. I have two beautiful photographs of the ocean pounding the rocks at a place called Bass Rocks with the Light Houses of Thatcher Island in the background (a favorite place of ours). They are both framed in white and a collection of beautiful shells in a white basket on the floor and a gorgeous piece of white coral on my dresser. Also, my husband hung a white tin ceiling and a chandelier for me as well. It's a great look. Go for it.

I'm redecorating my bedroom, and I have no idea where to start in terms of colors or a theme. I can start fresh, besides my off-white cottage style furniture. I really like the elegant look, and nothing to simple or vintage-y. Thanks for the ideas!

Paint your room in soft and medium sage greens. Bedding can be in elegant sage and browns. Draperies in Duponi silks in either the brown or the sage colors. Drapery rods should be a dark but not black elegant pole with a finial that is a fleur de lis or something similar. Keep your accessories simple and in a muted not shiny chrome. Do your lamp shades in a sage with simple beading. Pull in an area rug that would fit under the bed and then some that encompasses the greens and browns. Hang a chandelier to match your drapery poles and accessories. Make sure it's a chandelier that requires shades and do them the same as your other lamps. If you have room put in an ottoman in a a rich coordinating fabric for either the foot of the bed or somewhere where it will fit and be used. A brown animal print would work great. Bring in some simple tall animal sculptures and add some throws of a similar rich print. You will have elegance without girlie.

I want it kind of like a mix of Swiss and French countryside, with the lace and checkered fabric and yellow/green colors. I already have all white furniture (except for my desk, which is red and I have no idea what to do with it) and white walls which I would prefer to leave as it is. Any suggestions?

First of all, can you paint your desk? If not, maybe you can cover it with a beautiful fabric; check out the remnants at a fabric store and find one that coordinates with whatever bedding you choose. Here are some other things I hope you like:

I want to pick the right finish to match to my bedding... which is a white comforter with large pink hydrangeas so there is a soft and hot pink with soft sage and lime green color scheme... very subtle... and then I'll pop with sheets and pillows. But I don't know what color of wood finish to have... thought about white as I guess I'm kinda going for a country cottage (but less fussy) kind of style... but I think white will blend in with the bedding too much. Any suggestions?
