Solid Pine Bedroom Furniture

Hi, I don't know much about furniture other than saying something is cute or not, but I was told by a friend that I should stick with solid wood construction and avoid veneers, but I noticed that there are a lot of different varieties of wood used in different furniture sets. So far I've seen pine, maple, oak, alder, cherry, and mahogany. What's the best? What makes it best? What makes other wood cheap or poor quality? And is there a site online that can help to better explain why I want a better quality wood for my furniture and what in fact makes it better? I'm really hoping someone can help me out because I want to buy a nice quality bedroom set and I don't want to pay top dollar for junky furniture either. Thanks in advance.

The wood species is up to you, what do you like? If you choose a posted set, the posts should be solid wood. Any panels you choose can be veneered or solid. Veneer panels are much better than they used to be. The glues used are better and manufacturers are willing to stand behind them. Solid wood panels are beautiful but may require multiple glue joints to achieve adequate width. This can create inconsistent grain patterns. If you see something that looks good at the store, but when you get it it doesn't look so great, go back to the store and demand the display. They tend to show the best.

I'd love black bedroom furniture but i'm on a budget. I have two bedside cabinets that have a great shape but are solid pine, how can i paint them black with a glossy finish?

give them a good sanding a coat of primer and a glossy black pain finish you could also use Krylon spray paint if you do that you need to make a spraying booth this way the paint wont wonder elsewhere it's best to do this outside but not on a windy day and make sure that it's also dust free on that day

I have a matching tv armoire and bureau with mirror that I sm looking to sell. It's solid wood and I believe it's pine and is unfinished. It's about 7 years old and in pretty good condition. I'm just not sure how to go about pricing it. I don't know how much it was purchased for, as it was a gift. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

when people look to buy used bedroom furniture, they are usually looking for oak, cherry or mahogany. Pine is a soft wood, and the fact that it is unfinished will also be a problem to most. The fact that it is in good condition helps you out a lot though. I would guess you could sell the pieces for a few hundred dollars. The fact that it does not come with matching headboard or nightstands is also a problem.

My daughters white washed pine bedroom set is yellowing just in different spots. I just want to paint it solid white, like you see a lot of children's furniture. I want to avoid having to strip it. Can I just spray primer (we have a paint sprayer) and then spray the white. Thank you

Absolutely. Use a quality primer. Either oil based or latex can be used over oil based white wash.

Oil based paint will be the most durable, 100% acrylic (latex paint) will be a close second. Choose the paint based on the primer. (Rule of thumb, latex primer needs latex paint, anything else can go over anything else)

I spend most of my time in my bedroom studying (university student) so i want it to be cozy. originally the plan had been to go with white furniture and a sleek, modern look. but then i saw this gorgeous solid pine furniture and i've been spending a lot of time reading in starbucks as well.. and those two things combined kinda made me want to get a cozy cafe feeling in my room.

so what advice can you guys give me? should i go for medium dark furniture or super dark? what colors should i focus on and which ones should i use as accents? etc.
also like painting and picture-wise... i WILL for sure keep some of my posters up.

The questions you ask can be answered ((respectfully said )) by but you best!
So I ask you your first self question: When you are in Starbucks, what piece of furniture or furnishings are your eyes drawn most often. Is it the black, or dark colors or medium tones? With the cost of furniture, it is an investment so best to do your homework on longevity.
You should keep the theme and design very serene as does Starbucks, employing only three colors as they do. Quite a Zen like environment with the elements of texture, colors and simplicity.
Don't forget to add a touch of stainless steel materials, perhaps in your lighting. Area Rugs made of a textural raised design like Shag rugs of yesteryear, has given a rebirth to today's trends once again Taupe is a great color! Off white walls and green should be your primary colors. Striped patterns or solids, no floral. Stone or simulated stone textures can be added by using Candle pillars. For the flickering type candles as some colleges do not allow actual burning candles. Wall decor should be kept to a minimum. Perhaps give some consideration to Ansel Adams or any other wall art of black white framed photography.
