Hi, I don't know if this is a stupid question, but you know how there are various styles of furniture? Like contemporary, traditional, transitional, and even more specific categories like shaker or mission style, etc...? Well, what term is used to describe that traditional style furniture with a fan design etched into the wood (like on bedroom dressers, chests, etc..)? I saw it once online and the store used a term (like shaker, missionary, but not those) to describe it and I completely forgot. I thought maybe someone who knows a lot about furniture styles would know. I'm pretty sure there is an actual name, like how houses are Victorian or Colonial or modern, etc... Okay, sorry for the overuse of the words style and etc... Lol. Thanks in advance. Have a great day. :)
Okay, I've found out some terms but I'm still confused. If a furniture is made of mahogany, has a broken arch pediment top, a fan design, and ogee feet, what is it? I don't know if it's Chippendale, Queen Anne, Colonial, Early American, 18th century, or what. Anyone know? Thanks.
Hard to answer. The latest style may be art deco. Early american woodworkers carved many different things into their furniture, among them were fans.

I purchased a dark stained, simple, contemporary, sort of Shaker style large dresser with mirror and two end tables for my master bedroom. I have my "Ethan Allen" childhood vertical dresser plus another second hand beautiful, well made vertical chest of drawers and lastly my son's baby dresser that I couldn't sell, all in the room also. I know it sounds cluttered, but it's a big room and all those dressers don't make it look that way, besides I need the storage for all my clothers and stuff. I'm going to finally paint and decorate the room and I want to paint the old dressers to match the stain of the new dresser and end tables. I had and idea....what if I paint two of the old dressers, I different color something to contrast all the dark dressers? Something complimentary. I'm thinking of painting the walls a little darker than Terracotta, like a redish/brown...could I paint two of the old dressers in a light orange/terracotta or just paint the 3 old dressers a dark brown to match the new furniture. Just trying to be creative or maybe NOT.
it would be absolutely alright to go with that, just before you get out the brush, make sure to evaluate the items and paint the ones, that are worth the least.

Also if you would like to suggest and bedspreads/comforters i would gladly like it! Thanks :)
Hi I'm shopping:
I know the color that you are referring to very well. It is in one of my upstairs bedrooms. This is a great color choice! You have opened the doors to many other color options. Choose next your bedroom bedding comforter set, which will make it easier to start creating a room theme. As a point of suggestion: You can always use Burgundy and Black with your room. Opting for a less frilly pattern in your bedding more sophisticated stripes, cubed etc designs. The white furniture will help to balance out the entire room. In your lighting, if you choose table lamps that have a solid base color that compliments the bedding, but always use a white lamp shade. I think that pbteen.com is a great starting point for you to review online for ideas. Keeping your rooms elements ( different textures ) and colors in balance you will effortlessly pull off a great new room. Have Fun Happy Decorating!

Shaker Furniture is Practical Christianity in Wood Furniture
The appeal of Shaker furniture is found in simplicity and solid craftsmanship. Are Shakers related to the Amish or Mennonites? What are the characteristics of Shaker furniture?
Who Are the Shakers? The Shakers branched from the English Quakers in the mid 1700s. Shakers began shaking, whirling and speaking in tongues during the mainly-silent Quaker worship service.
After her conversion, "Mother" Ann Lee helped establish Shaker beliefs and practices, including celibacy, communal living and pacifism. Under her leadership, the Shakers began settling in the eastern United States about 1775.
Eventually the Shakers became respected for their farming, well-organized community life and inventiveness. Circular saws and clothespins are just two of their contributions to society; but the most famous is their distinctive style of solid wood furniture.
Membership in Shaker communities peaked at about six thousand members during the 1840s. Their numbers dwindled, especially in the late twentieth century.
