I am not a fan of the wood-like ones. Assuming the ceiling is white, I would go with white so that it will blend in. On most of those home decorating shows, they remove ceiling fans altogether because some people find them so hideous. Unfortunately, for many rooms, ceiling fans are the best way to keep cool in the summer or to help circulate air in general, and some people just plain like them. (I'm assuming you're in one of those situations or you're someone who likes them, and having grown up with one in my bedroom I have to agree with you and not the designers.)
My simple advice would be to keep it as plain and understated as possible, which means neutral white against a white ceiling.

I have an extra room I need to turn into a guest room. The walls are yellow, and the trim/closet doors are white. I have a nice blue/yellow bedspread that matches the wall, but I need add bedroom furniture (headboard, nightstand etc.). What color furniture should I use? (Wood - light, white or black OR maybe metal?)
I'd go with white, for either metal or wood. It will look nice and clean along with the white trim. If you choose to do a natural wood, I'd keep it light.
Remember, even though white will show dirt, dark colors show the DUST!
I'm a 20 year old girl (I like modern and bohemian themed rooms) that is opting to switch my new oversized bedroom furniture with older furniture (that actually fits in my room) from my guest bedroom...The only problem is that the furniture is this hideous 80's style oak furniture with lots of curlicues, cheesy faux-marble (i think its plastic) and frost mirror finishing. I'm thinking of refinishing it with my Dad, but I don't have a lot of experience..(he's decent with power tools). Any ideas to refinish/remodel it ..and overall change it? Or should I just give up now, and keep the oversized new furniture?
That sounds like a lot of work and like it will be hard to visualize the results.
I suggest looking in thrift stores and want ads for a new set of used furniture and then painting it.
I got a nifty 50's oak bedroom set from a thrift store for $50 and painted it two different shades of blue. Anyone can paint and then you have a better idea of what your results will look like.
I am completely redoing my room. new every thing except carpet. I am 13.
right now my room used to be the guest bedroom. so its full of antique-y furniture. i cant decide what i want. like what color furniture. what size bed, twin, full or queen. or what type of furniture i want. i know i want wood. and i don't want a loft bed.i want seek furniture.
i want a lounge area. i don't know what to paint my walls. i like purple but i don't know why. really i just don't want yellow or red or orange walls. i don't want light colored furniture either.
i cant decide some one please help!!
well purple looks quite good ! nice colour! you could do 3 walls a very light purple, ...and one of the walls ... a strong, very intense purple. I did that in my sister`s room and it came out great! and with purple ... some dark brown, mahogany furniture would be great!
I am redoing one of the guest bedrooms in my house. The room has hardwood floors (not very pretty as someone painted a yellowish orange color around the edges). I am thinking of painting the floors black. I want the color scheme in the room to be Black, White, and Red. What color should I paint the walls? Should I paint one accent wall red? What color should the trim be? Also, if anyone can tell me what steps I need to take to paint the wood floors black, please let me know. ONE MORE THING =) The walls are currently covered in ugly wallpaper (not my doing), what will be the easiest way to paint? Do I rip the wallpaper down or just paint over it for now? Pix or website links are greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!!!
P.S. My bedroom furniture for that room is all a medium color wood.
If you are set on the black, white and red I would do this...paint three walls a silvery gray shade and the wall behind the bed in the red you choose. Paint the floor black. Choose a black and white comforter and accent it with different sizes and shapes of pillows in grays, red and black. Use a silvery shade of draperies or white would look good against the gray walls. Find a pretty black lamp, an area rug, and a beautiful piece of art. And YES you need to take the paper down first. It's a mess, but you gotta do it! Think of it as therapy!

You created a fake window with a mirror to the right of the bed to create symmetry? How cool is that?!!! I love the placement of all the elements too. You did a fabulous job. Of course, before you start preening those feathers too...
