I'm planning on renovating my master bathroom, and I pretty much know what I want in terms of style. However, I happen to have cream color, cottage style bedroom furniture. Does the master bathroom have to match that color and style? I was planning on having a dark color for the vanity, neutral color tile, with bronze faucets, and beige color granite counter top.
you should get a distressed dark brown cabinet, and get a decorative edge on the counter, I prefer the Dupont edge. It is all a matter of preference on what look to put where but an off set but coordinating tone will work great separating the two rooms. I do this for a living and any thing looks great.

Described as follows: The bed must be antique white colored on the bottom- but the top canopy part of the bed must still be a wood finish- the antique white cottage effect is what is desired and the bed is essential in this- she wants exactly that- old cottage style antique white poster/canopy bed- but the top has to be that solid top and its gotta be the wood finish- what is that called???? where can we buy it??? thank you

I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Now pick an interior bedroom scene with dark wood furniture. Write in the color Rainwashed and copy it onto the walls. The trim should be bright white as should the ceiling. Those are the perfect beach cottage colors. I've done several beach or cottage themed rooms with these colors and clients are in love with the room when they see it.
I agree with the indoor shutters on the windows or for a more polished look, white flowing sheers. Depending on your age, if you're a young person for a bedspread, something like this would be a choice of mine: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product. asp?order_num=-1&SKU=118756&RN=3 1
If older, something more like: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product. asp?order_num=-1&SKU=123300&RN=3 1
One or two nicely framed pictures, a smart trick is to go to art.com and get posters and then buy inexpensive white or dark wood frames from a local craft store. Here are my suggestions with this room: http://www.art.com/products/p12879155-sa -i2056282/fabrice-de-villeneuve-ocean-am aryllis.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0& dimvals=0&ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b 751a497fc and http://www.art.com/products/p10283309-sa -i1152391/carol-saxe-sea-breeze-i.htm?so rig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0& ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b751a497fc
Maybe a nice big shell set on a dresser or night stand. Not much more than that, you want to have the affect of uncluttered and breezy.

Distressed edges
My husband and I are looking to buy new bedroom furniture and I really want black with a 4 poster bed (not laminate black, but maybe distressed?) and really want to make the room look "beachy." I was even thinking of an iron bed and then black dressers, night tables, etc. Is this even possible? We are painting the room a very pale blue and adding white beadboard around the lower walls. I was thinking of a white matelasse comforter, but just don't know if the black furniture will work? I'm afraid that white furniture will limit us too much in the future though. Any ideas would be great!
My bedroom is very similar to what you are describing. I love it and anyone that's seen it is equally impressed.
It can be done. Consider black and white dramatic ocean scenes framed in black or white. While black doesn't bring to mind the ocean for most of us, remember, there are islands with black beach sands. Maybe add some reddish coral color to to the room as well in the form of bed pillows or a throw blanket. Make sure your window treatments are light and airy. That really is the key to an ocean theme, open, light and airy. Don't clutter the room with too many items, keep it simple. I personally think it will look great.
I too have an ocean themed room. I have a wrought iron bed, this one: http://www.americanironbeds.com/wesabeds /bedfulls/1052flpg.html
the color is weathered blue. My dressers are cherry wood (dark) and all the wood trim in the room is white. I had thought of doing the white beadboard as well but thought it would compete too much with my bed. I have a white chennile bedspread. For a wall color I chose "Rainwashed" by Sherman Williams, you can see it here: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yo urself/paint_colors/visualizer/
just click on the color visualizer. It's an incredible oceany color. My window treatments are white venetion blinds only (my husbands pick).
I have two beautiful photographs of the ocean pounding the rocks at a place called Bass Rocks with the Light Houses of Thatcher Island in the background (a favorite place of ours). They are both framed in white and a collection of beautiful shells in a white basket on the floor and a gorgeous piece of white coral on my dresser. Also, my husband hung a white tin ceiling and a chandelier for me as well. It's a great look. Go for it.
I want to pick the right finish to match to my bedding... which is a white comforter with large pink hydrangeas so there is a soft and hot pink with soft sage and lime green color scheme... very subtle... and then I'll pop with sheets and pillows. But I don't know what color of wood finish to have... thought about white as I guess I'm kinda going for a country cottage (but less fussy) kind of style... but I think white will blend in with the bedding too much. Any suggestions?
