Bargain Bedroom Furniture

I'm going to buy new bedroom furniture in the coming weeks. I expect to pay about $1,200, and intend to pay cash upfront. How much do you think I can bargain the guy down to because I'm paying cash upfront?
I think I should be able to barter and haggle........ Everything is negotiable!

I usually get them to discount about 10%, unless the furniture is a floor model (then it usually is already discounted).

My wife and I live in Florida. We just bought a house, went out to City Furniture to get a full bedroom set, a mattress, and a breakfast table with 4 chairs for a total of about $6500. We told the guy we would give him $5500 right then and there and he flat out said "no.. we do not bargain" and we walked. It wasn't like ANY other people were buying in there. Am I crazy for trying to bargain??

Yes, you can bargain with furniture chains and no, you're not crazy. In fact, you should always attempt to bargain on large-dollar purchases. First, it never hurts to ask. Second, you never know what you might get for asking. My husband and I bought several rooms of furniture a couple of years ago and made our purchases at two chains, Mor and Room Store. We made deals at both. In one purchase, we offered cash today in exchange for a discount and they agreed to take off 5%. In the second, we received one very, large picture and a mirror thrown in to the deal plus free delivery. Just don't be afraid to walk and the previous poster is right - leave your contact info and wait a day or two.

Can anyone help me with ideas for decorating my niece's bedroom?

The house is rented and the landlord will not allow us to paint the walls (right now they are UGLY wood pannel) ...

I might can bargain with the landlord about the carpet, and maybe replace it with somekind of laminate tile or something similar.

But I am at a loss as to how to spruce up these walls.

Her furniture consists of :::

A toddler bed that is pink and white, some shelves that have Disney princesses on them, a little tikes pink plastic chair and matching toy box, and a dresser that is wooden. She loves Blue's clues, but I think we better stick with the pink and white theme.

Remember that we are ON A BUDGET, and she is 5.

I have seen sheets or curtains on the walls to in place of paint. You could try looking that up.

My mom and dad like to remark about my house. My husband bought it ten years ago almost new. We have four kids and its a bit run down but we can't clean it up til the kids are a bit older. That is in the next two years. It is 3 bedroom, 2 bath two story near the schools. My mom and dad make remarks because our siblings are buying very large and new homes. We like having paid off cars and only being in debt for the house. Our siblings have new SUVs and we dont' but we are building dunebuggies, t-buckets hotrods, and I have a small and expensive collection of tiny dogs and rabbits. How do I tell my parents that we're happy and to back off without being hateful? Our siblings each also have four kids. We just aren't into fashionable cars and homes, furniture and clothing. My hobbies are crafts, pets, bargains and my husbands are building large toys for himself and his friends. He works and pays the bills, has savings and I stay home with the family.
these are all great answers. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and just tell them to quit worrying or give me a love offering of 10,000 to redecorate.

It sounds like you are doing fine. Just tell your parents that. You are spending and saving your money the way you see fit, and you are happy. Your parents should know better than to compare children. Everyone has different priorities, so as long as you're happy and healthy, don't worry about what anyone else is doing or thinking.

10-20% and make them eat the sales tax and delivery transportation. But, don't expect to get everything, some will give the discount, but not the sales tax and some hire a delivery company thus cannot dicker on the price they charge. In this economy, there is not much margin on furniture mainly because the manufacturer's themselves have cut supplies and have inventories from past seasons to move.
