Baby Bedroom Furniture Sets

My husband and I just found out that were pregnant (unexpected) and we really can't afford very expensive baby furniture right now. I would love to be able to afford one of those $1000 bedroom sets at Babies-R-Us but the truth is with me being a full time college student and my husband not making much right now, we really can't spend that much.

Is it ok to buy used baby furniture? I feel like a bad parent for bringing my baby home to a used bedroom set. Also, would it be safe to have something thats been used?

We plan on buying brand new bedding, accessories, etc, it's just the furniture that costs so much.

Get used!!!! My husband and I bought our planned, beautiful baby girl home to a room full of used furniture!! I borrowed my sisters crib and we put a changing mat on top of an older dresser for a changing table. We even used my sister's sheets, pack-n-play, clothes, etc! My mother-in-law gave me some blankets and sheets she's saved from when my brother-in-law was a baby (45 years ago!!!!!!) We just washed everything! I washed the crib down really well (my niece used to chew on the top) and threw all the bedding/clothes into the washing machine. My daughter is the apple of our eye, and we still haven't bought her much.....she's gotten so many gifts and hand-me-downs (both clothing and toys!). Baby's and toddlers change so much, and they will only use the furniture for a few years. And you will spend so much money of other necessary items (diapers and wipes), don't feel guilty!!!

My husband has an old furniture set (chest, dresser, mirror and headboard) from the 80s. It served as our furniture when we got married and for baby furniture for both of our kids when they were little. It's sturdy, but very dated. What should I price it for?
I'd like to just give it away, but my husband insists it should be sold. I think he's being unrealistic, but I've never sold furniture before.

Any hints on what you've paid for an out-of-style yet very sturdy and well built set of bedroom furniture?

If you're in no hurry to sell it:

I'd suggest getting a few good photos and placing it on craigslist, maybe $100 per piece if in good condition ($400-500 total?).

If you don't get a response after one week, close down the ad and put up another one for $50 less.

I am going to purchase a black bedroom set and am totally stumped on what carpet and wall colors to do. For wall colors I do not want anything dark since I have a baby on the way and want to brighten up the small space we will share together that is our bedroom. As far as carpet, I do not want such a light color since I do not want to be dealing with the stains that are sure to happen although too dark might make the room appear smaller. As far as bedding, it will be black and white paisley print. If any of you have any suggestions iId appreciate it since I need to purchase the items within a month. Also if anyone can come up with a nice accent color that would be great. The baby's furniture as far as her crib will also be black and her crib bedding is lavender with pink, although these colors i do not want them to be guidelines for my bedroom palette! Thanks, sorry about all the info I just want to get this right on the first try! :)

maybe white and a bright green or blue that could be a pretty combination :]

The website www.bedroomfurniture.com has a large assortment of bedroom furniture. I already bought some furniture for my bedroom: a white shutter queen size bed and white shutter dresser. But I think the dresser might not be enough space for my clothes so I'm thinking about getting an armoire or chest. The problem is that I can't find one that matches the set I already purchased, except the baby furniture by StorkCraft. Some of the furniture would fit perfectly with my set, but I think it would seem weird buying baby furniture. What do you guys think?

No there isn't a problem with it,if it matches then buy it,once you get it in your room you won't be able to tell that it is baby furniture.

We bought our baby's furniture set a month or so ago. And I'm just so anxious to put it together! I want to see it. and to see the baby's room look like a baby's room! I am at the begining of 6 months pregnant. Our baby shower is in April sometime. Not exactly sure when, because my M-I-L is throwing one. I was going to wait until after the shower to put it together because were getting some of the bedroom set and were painting the room. and I figured we should just wait untill the room is painted. but if I put together like just the changing table then we can move it out of the room when its being painted. so nothing will get on it. lol. im just super excited. I dont know when to do all this. and I want to see one piece at least!

were painting his room the baby blue and green in the set. were doing the top half blue and bottom half green. i cant wait!

Put it together! We put our stuff together early, it's so much fun to see your baby's things around the house. We just threw a blanket over the crib when my husband painted the room, it was no big deal.

Do it, it's fun!

I had the Pack 'N Play up in the living room for months before my daughter came. It's so neat to look at the baby stuff and try to imagine your baby in there...
