www.TheFurniture.com presents Antique white finish bedroom set with Queen size panel bed by Lea. Graceful shapes and extensive carvings with ...
We're moving house and I have decided I want my room to be French Vintage/French Country Vintage. This basically consists of antique style furniture, similar to Queen Anne Furniture - but only WHITE and CREAM colours.
I was going to purchase white/off white antique bedroom furniture, however due to a restrictive amount of money, I have decided to do a little bit of DIY.
This bed & bedside tables, I have decided to paint myself.
I know that firstly I'd have to sand the furniture to remove the polish/laquer, then i'd like to paint it white/off white and sand it again to remove shine and make it look more vintage.
Here is a picture of the furniture i'd like to paint:

Here are two pictures of furniture that I liked, and what i'm aiming for:

Can you help give me some tips & advice, since this furniture is expensive and I wouldn't want to ruin it. Thank you in advance.
Sand it then use a pickling stain. http://www.amazon.com/Minwax-61860-White -Pickling-Stain/dp/B000BZTJDI You won't need to sand it after you stain because it gives a thin white look that almost appears aged already. It will allow the grain to show through.
Do I sand it first and what type of white paint do I use for furniture?
My mom used to restore old pieces and resell them to make extra money, which is where I learned how. To do it correctly you will have to strip the old finish off. Then sand it down with a very fine grit sand paper, unless there are deep gouges then you will first want to sand with a heavy grit paper, then follow with a fine. Prime it with a light color white or gray, (not spray paint) you will need an even run free coating. Then again sand with a very fine paper or steel wool. Blow it off with air there cannot be any dust left on it. Then you will have to decide if you want an antique cracked look or a smooth new look. You will want to use enamel for your finish paint, so you can wash off any marks it may pick up over time, because white will show dirt and marks very well. For your final coat, you will want to put a clear finish on to help protect it. Be careful and pre test it so you know if it will turn your color or not. Your local hardware store should be able to help walk you through the process. Or you may want to go to a local paint store for the paint and clear coat. Sometimes they will know more about such products. Use brushes and paint not spray paint. It is to easy to have uneven coverage and runs with spray paint.

It is in fact a little bit creamy/buttery white. Do I paint my closet doors that colour too? Or should I paint my closet the same colour as my walls? The wall colour is yet to be determined neither is my new bedding (getting a whole new bed) but I love the combo of pink & brown (strawberries & chocolate). My furniture is med brown stained maple and the room gets very little light as it is a converted garage -- long & narrow with 2 small garage style windows. Any help would be much appreciated - I'm very indecisive.
I just had my bedroom redone. This is what I did....painted the walls a light sage green (flat paint). Painted the ceiling and all the doors (including the closet) an off white. Ceiling flat paint, doors semi-gloss. Then I got some crown moulding, its very inexpensive, painted it high gloss pure white and the room looks wonderful.
I recently purchased a new bedroom set (an antique black color) and am trying to redo the room before it arrives. I'm hoping to paint the walls a buttery yellow color, and I have oak colored hardwood floors. My question is what color would you recommend painting all of the trim (fairly wide trim along the floors, around all windows, doors, and the hope is for crown molding eventually)?? We usually like the starkness of white trim, however it seems as if it would be rather jarring against the black furniture. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Same shade as the furniture.
