Antique Oak Bedroom Furniture

I recently purchased a new bedroom set (an antique black color) and am trying to redo the room before it arrives. I'm hoping to paint the walls a buttery yellow color, and I have oak colored hardwood floors. My question is what color would you recommend painting all of the trim (fairly wide trim along the floors, around all windows, doors, and the hope is for crown molding eventually)?? We usually like the starkness of white trim, however it seems as if it would be rather jarring against the black furniture. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

I want it to be antique looking, but to come in a set not piece by piece. If you have a link or the name of the store, please post. I want it to be a dark color, not black but oak/cherry like.

The best place without doubt is your closest auction. You may not be able to pic out what you want exactly right away, but it WILL be affordable if you pick your battles.

Here's why. Furniture is very slow right now due to foreclosures and eBay sellers wanting smaller things to sell. As goes the dealers and resellers so goes the prices.

When you add all this up, consider that a local auction does NOT want to put the same items up on the block twice, so they are selling furniture very cheap at this time.

Most dealers will tell you, there has never been a worse time to sell furniture at auction, but there has never been a better time to buy it!

My husband likes blues and I like browns. Our options would be a shade of blue walls and a shade of brown comforter on the bed or a shade of brown walls and a shade of blue comforter on the bed. The furniture in the room is all oak and is all antique and we have a beige carpet that will go with anything. Also, what color would you paint the bathroom?

Well you have great ideas for your master bedroom, i would definatly go with the blue walls and brown comforter, it will go great with your antique furniture. as for the bathroom i personally love bottem half a variety of brown/greyish tiles and then a tan or brown or beige color on the upper half. good luck, and have fun re-decorating

I am currently building a house, and have plans for my master bedroom. I am painting the walls a cucumber green. I have a gorgeous antique oak vanity, black and cream bedding, and an antique blackish-bronze (hard to explain) headboard. (its actually an antique mirror). I plan on having a black/cream/green theme going on.

Question: do you think it is necessary for me to paint my vanity black? I have not yet gotten a bedside table, or any other furniture for my room, but I just want to know if you guys think oak wood will look okay with mostly black and cream accessories/ a blackish headboard.

I would really rather not paint the vanity, as it is gorgeous how it is, but I would consider it.

Oh, and I have a very ecclectic taste. Most of the rest of my home is done in unmatching woods and distressed pieces, but I have been told my vanity wont match my room (by my sister in law) so I thought I'd ask for more opinions!

I'm not completely sure what cucumber green is, btw. If it's more like a Kelly Green - an unnatural, unorganic green, than the oak may not match. If cucumber green is still pretty organic looking, then keep it ask it. Overall, I imagine a green, brown and cream all going together. So I'll say no, you do not have to paint the vanity black. Leave it natural. It's easy to paint something than to strip it.

I am thinking that your sister-in-law is thinking that the vanity has to match the bed specifically and not so much the room in general. You could, as well, put the vanity and bed set on opposite places in the room. And put some sort of accessories or accents with cream and brown and/or black. If you still feel the oak vanity doesn't match that is.

Hey guys! Ok so i need a lot of help in decorating my room!
Just moved in, so ya.
Alright well the only things that i have decided are the following:
1.Hot Pink/Orange/A little bit of yellow tie-dye effect bed spread
2.White Oak Antique style dresser
3.White Oak Antique style study

Ok so what I need help on is what colours i should work with (besides orange,pink,yellow) and what colour i should paint my walls???

Also, any ideas for where I can add features to my bedroom?? Like Idunnno, to make it more fun I guess...furniture ideas or anything. Links to sites would be great :))

But yea, the main question here is what colour I should paint my walls!!

Oh and I have a queen-sized bed. Idunno if that could help or not....

It might be nice to add a bit of purple in there. Lavender would not stand out as much as a dark purple. A lamp would also be nice.
