Antique Bedroom Furniture

Our bedroom furniture is antique but in great condition. I have a long dresser with a huge mirror and a tall dresser. How can I update the look? Can you paint wood? It also has a shiny finish on top.

Don't mess with the finish on the furniture. You can change the look of the room by adding modern artwork and new comforter,shams and tailored bedskirt.
You could change the hardware on the drawers to something more modern. Just take one of the pulls with you to match up so you don't have to drill new holes. Also save all the old pulls. Place in a ziplock bag in one of the drawers.

19 September 2010. Libaros, France. The French Restoration. Here is the first couple of steps in distressing and antiquing our corner cupboard.

I want it to be antique looking, but to come in a set not piece by piece. If you have a link or the name of the store, please post. I want it to be a dark color, not black but oak/cherry like.

The best place without doubt is your closest auction. You may not be able to pic out what you want exactly right away, but it WILL be affordable if you pick your battles.

Here's why. Furniture is very slow right now due to foreclosures and eBay sellers wanting smaller things to sell. As goes the dealers and resellers so goes the prices.

When you add all this up, consider that a local auction does NOT want to put the same items up on the block twice, so they are selling furniture very cheap at this time.

Most dealers will tell you, there has never been a worse time to sell furniture at auction, but there has never been a better time to buy it!

I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Now pick an interior bedroom scene with dark wood furniture. Write in the color Rainwashed and copy it onto the walls. The trim should be bright white as should the ceiling. Those are the perfect beach cottage colors. I've done several beach or cottage themed rooms with these colors and clients are in love with the room when they see it.

One or two nicely framed pictures, a smart trick is to go to art.com and get posters and then buy inexpensive white or dark wood frames from a local craft store. Maybe a nice big shell set on a dresser or night stand. Not much more than that, you want to have the affect of uncluttered and breezy.

can anyone provide names of products best to use and give me step by step of what to do as this could work out costly if i mess up!

Distress it with several different items and a hammer, such as hitting a nail on it's side, hitting a washer or chain..give it some hammer marks. Then paint it.You can also sand edges and other marks into the paint to make it look worn. Use a very fine sandpaper.
